RPEA members give generously of their time long after their careers in public service end. This page lets you log your volunteer hours across up to four organizations — from meal delivery and tutoring to hospital, church, and community service work. So RPEA can track and celebrate the impact retirees make each fiscal year. Submit your hours below to be counted.
Community Participation: Volunteers for Public Service
RPEA members make a difference in their chapters, communities, schools, places of worship, and organizations throughout California and beyond. When reporting your volunteer hours, include time you give to RPEA as well as other unpaid community service.
Volunteer hours may include:
- RPEA Service — Chapter officers, board members, committee members, meeting volunteers, newsletter and website assistance, membership outreach, legislative activities, events, workshops, and other RPEA activities.
- Schools & Libraries — Volunteering at a library, school, classroom, tutoring program, literacy program, or your grandchildren’s school.
- Elections & Civic Service — Registrar of Voters, poll worker or election volunteer, voter assistance, community boards and commissions, and other civic activities.
- Faith Communities — Churches, synagogues, temples, mosques, and other faith-based organizations, including food programs, choirs, teaching, outreach, and other volunteer activities.
- Food & Nutrition Programs — Meals on Wheels, food banks, food distribution, community meals, and other nutrition programs.
- Healthcare & Caregiving — Hospitals, blood banks, nursing homes, senior programs, caregiving, friendly visits, errands, shopping, telephone check-ins, and other assistance.
- Transportation — Care Car and other volunteer transportation for seniors, neighbors, friends, family members, or voters.
- Youth Programs — After-school programs, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA/YWCA, Scouts, sports, museums, mentoring, and other youth activities.
- Community & Service Organizations — Rotary, Elks, Lions Clubs, community theaters, museums, fairs, festivals, neighborhood groups, and other community organizations.
- Charitable & Assistance Programs — Programs serving people experiencing homelessness, survivors of abuse, children and families, CASA, and other charitable organizations.
- Public Assistance & Tax Programs — Volunteer assistance with tax preparation, SNAP, utility discounts, benefit programs, and other community resources.
- Family & Neighbor Assistance — Unpaid assistance to grandchildren, family members, neighbors, seniors, or others who need help, including childcare and other support.
